Feburary 3, 1976 @ 3:04am -- the earth beneath Guatemala erupted with tragic results. More than 28,000 killed, 140,000± wounded, and 175,000 homes/buildings damaged/destroyed. The afternoon prior I was ferrying a new Cessna to Brazil and landed in GUA for overnight. Ended finding a room in guest home, across street from Roosevelt Hospital. Watched the hours of vehicles bringing wounded and dead; saw the piles of bodies in the yard when the mogue quickly filled. - In following days, flew many hours of rescue into mountain airstrips.
1963-1971 we had lived in Yucatàn and San Cristobal Las Casas, flying mercy missions.
